Restaurant Nusantara
A relaxed, family-style Indonesian menu in central Ubud from the Locavore team.
The Locavore team, at a family table
Nusantara by Locavore takes its name from the Indonesian word for archipelago, and it is the informal counterpart to Locavore NXT. Where the flagship runs a long tasting menu, Nusantara is about regional home-style dishes, served family-style in a wood-focused room with a red-brick wall and a grill at the entrance that burns coconut-husk briquettes.
The set tasting menu comes as a snack tray, six mains, rice, two sambals and dessert, and a recent version included moringa leaf soup in a burnt coconut, banana-blossom stir-fry, kangkung with papaya blossom and braised tempeh curry. Green sambal rapah and red sambal tuktuk point to Lombok and Sumatra. The set menu includes meat but can be adapted for vegetarians and vegans.
It sits in central Ubud and is open for lunch and dinner. Reservations are recommended and need a second confirmation email, and menus change, so the dishes above are examples.
