Desa Potato Head
Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia
Two design hotels by Andra Matin and OMA around Bali's best-known beach club, with a serious waste-recycling programme.
Why we recommend it
Two things set it apart. The first is architecture: buildings by Andra Matin and OMA that use brick pressed by temple methods, reclaimed shutters, and ceilings and furniture made from recycled plastic. The second is the waste programme. Everything discarded is sorted on site and turned into compost, tiles, furniture and objects, and by the company's own account about half of one per cent now goes to landfill. Guests can tour the workshop.
Location
The complex is on the beach at Seminyak, on the south-west coast of Bali. Day visitors can use the beach club, subject to a minimum spend.
