Doppo
A teahouse-style counter built around classical art and home-brewed sake, two Michelin stars.
Doppo is a Japanese counter restaurant at 1-1 Izumoji Matsunoshitacho in Kita-ku, Kyoto. It holds two Michelin stars in the 2026 Michelin Guide Japan.
The cooking
Michelin’s inspectors describe a restaurant that values both Japanese culinary aesthetics and classical art. The teahouse-style interior holds hanging scrolls and vases collected over many years, and the simply presented dishes are meant to complement the serving ware. It also draws on home-brewed sake and fermentation. The name Doppo, meaning unique, was a favourite phrase of the epicure Rosanjin Kitaoji.
