Why we recommend it
Aman Kyoto is the least urban of the city's leading hotels. With 26 rooms on 32 hectares, most of it forest, it offers a degree of seclusion that no hotel in the central districts can match, and onsen bathing in a city with few hotel hot springs.
It suits travellers who want Kyoto's gardens and temples by day and silence at night, and who accept a drive to Gion and Higashiyama. The architecture is by the practice behind Aman Tokyo. For how it compares with the city's other new hotels, see Kyoto's decade of new hotels; the opening is reported in our 2019 article.
Location
The estate lies in the north of Kyoto, within walking distance of Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion. Kyoto Station is about 30 minutes away by car and Osaka International Airport (Itami) about one hour.
