Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto
Higashiyama, Kyoto, Japan
Fifty-two rooms by Kengo Kuma between Kiyomizu-dera and Kodai-ji, with a natural onsen and a Noh stage.
- Open
- Opened August 2024
Why we recommend it
Two things set it apart: a natural hot spring on the property, and the only Noh stage in a Kyoto hotel.
The site lies among the old lanes between Kiyomizu-dera and Kodai-ji, which are crowded by day and almost empty after dark; staying here gives access to the district at the hours when it is best seen. The restaurant is a good place for a first kaiseki meal. See our report on the opening and Kyoto's decade of new hotels.
Location
The hotel stands on the hill of Ryozen in Higashiyama, on the slope between Kiyomizu-dera and Kodai-ji, a short walk from both and close to Park Hyatt Kyoto.
