Chao Shang Chao
Hong Kong chef Cheung Yat-fung's Chaozhou cooking, three Michelin stars in Chaoyang.
Chaozhou cooking at three stars
Chao Shang Chao in Chaoyang is led by executive chef Cheung Yat-fung, from Hong Kong, who trained under Tsang Chiu-king and has led the kitchen since 2020. It held two stars in 2022 and 2023, then three in 2024 and 2025, and retained three in the 2026 guide, when Cheung received the inaugural Beijing Mentor Chef Award.
The kitchen is Chaozhou-focused, with a philosophy described as merging tradition with innovation and using fresh, premium ingredients. One dish named in a Robb Report interview is braised eel wrapped in lotus leaf. Cheung won a gold medal at the 2015 Chinese Cuisine World Championship and earned stars at Ji Pin Court in Shanghai before moving to Beijing.
A separate Chao Shang Chao in Xicheng entered the 2026 guide with one star, and the group has a Shenzhen branch opening. A Chef’s Table lets guests watch the creative process.
