Swire Hotels Unites Its Houses Under the Upper House Brand
Hong Kong, Chengdu and Shanghai will all carry the Upper House name, with new openings announced for Shenzhen, Xi'an, Tokyo and Bangkok.
Swire Hotels announced on 15 October 2025 that Upper House will become a global brand uniting the House Collective. The existing Houses in Hong Kong, Chengdu and Shanghai will be renamed Upper House, so that The Upper House in Admiralty gives its name to the whole group.
The group points to the Hong Kong hotel’s record: a place in the top five of the World’s 50 Best Hotels for two consecutive years, and recognition in the inaugural global MICHELIN Keys selection, where Hong Kong holds two Keys and Chengdu and Shanghai one each.
The brand rests on a philosophy Swire Hotels calls “Houses not Hotels”: hospitality that is unscripted, authentic and personal, with each property reflecting local culture in its guest experience, dining and service. Its stated core values are thinking differently and aiming higher. Dean Winter, Managing Director of Swire Hotels, said the rebrand “heralds a new chapter for Upper House as a single, iconic brand.”
The announcement also set out four projects for the years ahead, all under the Upper House name: a hotel in Shenzhen in 2027, one in Xi’an in 2028, one in Tokyo in 2029, and Upper House Residences in Bangkok in 2030, the brand’s first branded residences. For homeowners the residences are to bring integrated amenities, services and property management under the Upper House name.
