Tempura Tenyu
A ryokan-run tempura counter in Kyoto frying in cottonseed oil; Selected in the MICHELIN Guide Kyoto Osaka 2026.
Cottonseed oil and a tea-house interior
Ten-you is a tempura restaurant at 299 Shimohakusancho in Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto, managed by a ryokan, and is a Selected restaurant in the MICHELIN Guide Kyoto Osaka 2026.
The clean-lined interior was created by a tea-house craftsman, with modern Japanese private rooms on the ground floor and counter seating upstairs, where the chef holds court. Tempura is fried in cottonseed oil for a light texture, and the prix fixe alternates seafood and vegetables; tilefish wrapped in perilla leaf is a creative touch. Tendon is offered at lunchtime, so that guests can return after their stay at the inn.
