Kaiseki around charcoal braziers

Muromachi Wakuden is at 679 Marukizaimokucho in Nakagyo, Kyoto, and holds one Michelin star in the MICHELIN Guide Kyoto Osaka 2026, with Daisuke Ogawa as chef. It belongs to Wakuden, which began in 1870 as an inn in Kyotango in northern Kyoto Prefecture; the group’s flagship is Kodaiji Wakuden.

The Michelin inspectors describe a kitchen alive with motion, guided by a philosophy of rustic beauty and cultured refinement, with ingredients plated in their natural form. Flame-broiled and stewed dishes are cooked on earthen charcoal braziers in front of guests, and rice grown in Kyotango is steamed in clay pots.
