The Restaurant

YuDao sits on Yuguang Island, about twenty minutes from central Tainan, in part of the former Mao House guesthouse, with a courtyard, exposed concrete and a full-height glass façade. It is the island’s only fine dining restaurant, according to Tasty Trip.

Chef Nick Yang, a Tainan native who returned from Taitung after Sinasera 24 closed, cooks ingredient-driven food that blends French technique with Taiwanese banquet tradition. About 70 per cent of ingredients come from Tainan, according to FTV News. The opening menu included a milkfish tartare with milkfish crisps, a puff-pastry soup inspired by his grandmother’s banquet cooking, and a rice course finished with milkfish bone broth.

Good to Know

The Michelin Guide named YuDao its Opening of the Year and listed it as Tainan’s first starred restaurant, also giving it a Green Star. See Taiwan for the wider picture.
