Ma’s Kitchen (Jinjiang)
A Sichuan restaurant in Chengdu's Taikoo Li district with a one-star rating and roots in a 1923 Weishan stall.
The Restaurant
Ma’s Kitchen traces its lineage to a stall in Weishan that opened in 1923, and the Jinjiang branch carries that history into one of Chengdu’s busiest retail districts. The Michelin Guide describes a vintage, slightly hipster interior, which suits the setting around Taikoo Li, and a menu built on Sichuan classics rather than reinvention.
Two dishes anchor the inspectors’ description: duck blood curd with pork offal and sliced eel, which they call the signature, and crispy fen zheng rou, pork coated in seasoned rice flour, steamed and then deep-fried. Both are old-school, texture-led plates, and they say more about the kitchen than any tasting menu would.
Good to Know
The restaurant holds one Michelin star in the current guide to Chengdu. Expect a queue from opening time, and note that it takes its own bookings by phone rather than through a platform. For the wider picture of eating in the city, see the Chengdu destination page.
