Hujan Locale
Will Meyrick's Indonesian street-food-inspired restaurant in central Ubud.
Indonesia on a shared table
Hujan Locale is chef Will Meyrick’s tribute to the archipelago’s regional food. Meyrick spent roughly eighteen months travelling Indonesia for his television series The Street Food Chef, learning from local cooks, and the menu carries that research: Sumatran rendang, martabak, a range of satay and other dishes that move from street food to polished versions of regional classics.
It occupies two floors on Jl. Sri Wedari in the cultural heart of Ubud, with family-style sharing plates that suit groups. The Honeycombers highlights slipper lobster dumplings and steamed ikan bumbu kuning, and notes that cocktails are served from a cart.
Meyrick also runs cooking classes and a street-food tour as part of his programme, which makes the restaurant a good starting point for visitors who want to understand Indonesian food before they head to the warungs. Menus change, so treat these dishes as examples of the style.
