Michelin Guide Tokyo 2026: Myojaku Earns Three Stars
The 2026 Tokyo guide, announced on 25 September 2025, lists 526 restaurants with 12 at three stars, including the newly promoted Myojaku.
The MICHELIN Guide Tokyo 2026 was announced on 25 September 2025. It lists 526 restaurants, of which 160 hold stars: 12 with three, 26 with two and 122 with one. Tokyo remains, by a wide margin, the city with the most starred restaurants in the world.
The main news was a new three-star restaurant. Myojaku, in Nishi-Azabu, was promoted from two stars. Its chef, Hidetoshi Nakamura, cooks Japanese cuisine of extreme restraint. His aim, in the words of the guide, is harmony, subtlety and purity, and some dishes are seasoned with little more than water and sea salt, so that the quality of the ingredient is all there is to taste. The restaurant has a small counter and is among the hardest reservations in the city.
Three restaurants were promoted to two stars: Nishiazabu Sushi Shin, and the Japanese restaurants Hakuun and Ensui. Seventeen restaurants received one star, fourteen of them new to the selection and three promoted from within it. Thirteen restaurants hold the Green Star for sustainable practice, one of them newly awarded.
The special awards included one that says much about the city. The Mentor Chef Award went to Kenjiro Kanemoto of Nodaiwa, the grilled-eel restaurant in Azabu that his family has run for five generations. He is 97 and still at work. Yasuyo Kumagae of the Chinese restaurant Piao-Xiang received the service award, and Tsuyoshi Nakamura of Manoir the sommelier award.
Gwendal Poullennec, the guide’s international director, described Tokyo as a city where centuries of culinary tradition meet bold innovation. The breadth of the list bears that out. It ranges from sushi, tempura, soba and kaiseki to French, Italian, Chinese and Spanish cooking, and includes a growing number of restaurants devoted to dessert tasting menus.
Among the three-star restaurants is Sézanne, at Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi. OKYTO’s Tokyo guide lists the city’s notable tables.
