Luxury Shopping in Tokyo: A Guide to Ginza’s Flagships and Where to Stay Nearby

Ginza's flagship stores by Renzo Piano, Peter Marino and others, with the Marunouchi hotels a short walk away.

Ginza is where Tokyo’s luxury houses build their most ambitious stores. This guide covers the buildings and where to stay nearby.

Why Ginza

Ginza is where Tokyo’s luxury houses build their most ambitious stores, and the buildings are worth seeing even if you buy nothing. Our comparison Tokyo’s Flagship Architecture: Ginza and Aoyama Compared sets out the district-by-district picture.

Flagships to see

Maison Hermès Ginza is Renzo Piano’s lantern of glass blocks. Chanel has two buildings in Ginza, both by Peter Marino. Cartier reopened its Ginza flagship after two years of renovation. Ginza Six opened on the site of Tokyo’s Matsuzakaya store, designed by the architect profiled in Yoshio Taniguchi, the Quiet Architect of the Okura and Ginza Six.

Where to stay

The Peninsula Tokyo overlooks the Imperial Palace in Marunouchi, steps from Ginza. Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi is an intimate 57-key hotel near Tokyo Station, and Palace Hotel Tokyo in Marunouchi has partnered with Dior on a 2026 stay package (details).
