Louis Vuitton Presents Maison Osaka Midosuji, Shaped Like a Merchant Ship
Jun Aoki and Peter Marino's four-storey Osaka maison takes its white, sail-like façade from a merchant ship, and holds Louis Vuitton's first café and a hidden evening restaurant.
In January 2020 Louis Vuitton presented its Maison Osaka Midosuji, a four-storey building designed by Jun Aoki, with interiors by Peter Marino. The design draws on the port character and maritime history of Osaka: the white, sail-like elements of the façade are inspired by the Higaki-kaisen, a merchant ship.
On the top floor is Le Café V, the brand’s first café, run by the chef Yosuke Suga. Behind a secret door is Sugalabo V, a restaurant that serves a few guests in the evening only.
Marino also designed the interior of the house’s Seoul building, Maison Seoul, whose exterior is by Frank Gehry.
