The hotel stands on the North Bund near Waibaidu Bridge, where Suzhou Creek meets the Huangpu River, and is the second Regent hotel in Shanghai.
It occupies the site of the Seagull Hotel, built in 1984 on the grounds of the former Shanghai International Seamen’s Club and long frequented by sailors and international travellers. IHG signed the project with owner Shanghai Seagull Holding Group in late 2022, describing it as a combination of the Seagull’s heritage with Regent’s luxury standards and classical Shanghai-style design.
Hong Kong-based Zheng Zhong Design Office handled the interiors. The hotel has 135 rooms of at least 40 square metres each; 20 suites have private balconies facing the Bund and Lujiazui.
Dining includes Jinlin, a Cantonese restaurant, Xiu, which serves East-West dishes with Bund views, and Condé Bakery. Facilities include a naturally lit 25-metre indoor pool, a 24-hour gym and the 600-person Regent Ballroom with 270-degree views of the Bund, alongside event spaces linked by a spiral staircase.
General manager Giorgio Olivotti described the hotel as an urban oasis for travellers seeking luxury and tranquillity. More on the city’s riverside hotels is in our Shanghai guide, and booking details are on the Regent website.
