A small Regent at the mouth of Suzhou Creek, with balconied suites looking straight at the Bund and Lujiazui.
Why we recommend it
Few hotels in Shanghai see both banks of the Huangpu at once. From the mouth of Suzhou Creek the view runs down the line of the Bund on one side and across to the towers of Lujiazui on the other, and 20 suites have balconies from which to take it in. With 135 rooms the hotel is small by the standards of the riverfront.
The site has a history of its own: the Seagull Hotel served sailors and foreign visitors from 1984, on the grounds of the old seamen's club. Travellers who prefer a historic address on the Bund itself should compare The Peninsula Shanghai; Bulgari Hotel Shanghai is the other choice along Suzhou Creek.
Location
On the North Bund in Shanghai, beside Waibaidu Bridge, where Suzhou Creek meets the Huangpu River. The Bund is across the bridge on foot, and Lujiazui faces the hotel across the river.
