Michelin Guide Taiwan 2026: Two New Two-Star Restaurants in Taipei

The 2026 edition, announced on 21 July, lists 434 restaurants in seven cities and counties. Mizue and Nobuo rise to two stars and nine restaurants earn a first star.

The Michelin Guide announced its 2026 selection for Taiwan on 21 July 2026. The guide now covers Taipei, New Taipei City, Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung and both Hsinchu City and Hsinchu County, with 434 restaurants in all categories.

The top of the list

Three restaurants hold three stars. Le Palais, the Cantonese restaurant at the Palais de Chine Hotel in Taipei, has held the distinction since the first edition. Taïrroir, also in Taipei, applies French technique to Taiwanese flavours. JL Studio in Taichung, where chef Jimmy Lim cooks a modern reading of Singaporean food, is the only three-star outside the capital.

Two Taipei restaurants were promoted to two stars. Mizue is a Japanese restaurant. Nobuo, which Michelin describes as combining Japanese and Scandinavian influences with a focus on seafood, moves up after several years at one star.

Nine new one-star restaurants

Six restaurants were promoted from the recommended selection: Kiku, Mume and Silk House in Taipei, Shineyu in Taichung, Nibbon in Kaohsiung and Sushi An in Hsinchu County. Mume, a long-standing name on Asia’s restaurant lists, returns to the starred ranks.

Three more enter the guide directly with one star: Hābu in Kaohsiung, Restaurant 12 in Taipei and Yu Dao in Tainan. Yu Dao also received a Green Star and the Opening of the Year award, an unusual combination for a first-year restaurant and a sign of how much attention the cooking of southern Taiwan now receives. The guide counts nine Green Star restaurants in total.

Special awards

The Young Chef award went to Liu An Hsu of Sushi An, aged 30. Cindy Tsai of Circum- in Taipei received the Service award and Bonnie Chiou of Li.nu in Kaohsiung the Sommelier award.

For the traveller

The guide’s spread across seven cities and counties follows the island’s high-speed rail line down the west coast: Taichung is under an hour from Taipei, Tainan and Kaohsiung under two. A food-focused trip can now reasonably include a dinner in each. In Taipei, the opening of Capella Taipei in 2025 added a hotel at the level of the city’s restaurants.
