Michelin Merges Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang Into One Guide
Announced in Taizhou on 9 April 2026, the first combined edition covers eight cities and 409 restaurants. Taian Table stays the only three-star; four restaurants rise to two.
The Michelin Guide presented its first combined selection for Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang on 9 April 2026 at a ceremony in Taizhou, in Zhejiang Province. Until now Shanghai and Hangzhou had separate guides. The new edition treats the Yangtze River Delta as one dining region and covers eight cities: Shanghai, Nanjing, Suzhou, Yangzhou, Changzhou, Hangzhou, Wenzhou and Taizhou.
The numbers
The selection lists 409 restaurants: one with three stars, 14 with two, 62 with one, 164 Bib Gourmand addresses and 168 further recommended restaurants. Taian Table in Shanghai, Stefan Stiller’s counter restaurant, remains the only three-star.
Four restaurants were promoted to two stars. Three are in Shanghai: Amazing Chinese Cuisine, T’ang Court at The Langham and Tou Zao. The fourth is Jie Xiang Lou in Hangzhou, whose chef Bin Yu also received the Mentor Chef award. Hangzhou now has two restaurants at this level, with Ru Yuan retaining its two stars.
New cities, new stars
The interest of a regional guide lies outside the metropolis. Nanjing gains two one-star restaurants, Meng Du Hui and Pin Ning Fu. Suzhou has Xi Ding Jia Yan and Yangzhou has Cheng Yuan, both in cities whose Huaiyang and Su cooking has long been considered among the most refined in China without much international recognition.
Taizhou, the host city, is the notable debut. Its seafood-led cooking became known across China through Xin Rong Ji, the restaurant group that started there and now holds stars in several cities. Two Xin Rong Ji addresses in Taizhou receive one star, alongside Carved Dragons and Lao Bian Jiu Jia. In Shanghai the new one-star restaurants are Fabula, Huaiyang Delights and Vivant by Johnny Pham.
Other awards
Pu Zhu in Hangzhou holds the Green Star for sustainable practice. Abby Chen of Trine in Shanghai received the Young Chef award, Beryl Guo of Bao Li Xuan the Service award and Mario Wang of Meng Du Hui in Nanjing the Sommelier award.
For travellers the practical effect is a single reference for a region linked by high-speed rail, where Suzhou is under half an hour from Shanghai and Hangzhou about an hour. A weekend built around a meal in Yangzhou or Taizhou is now easier to plan.
