The Restaurant

Shola is the restaurant of the Shishi-Iwa House collection in Karuizawa, a group of houses designed by the Pritzker Prize winners Shigeru Ban and Ryue Nishizawa. Chef Masashi Okamoto, formerly of a leading Tokyo hotel, cooks modern Japanese-French food from seasonal Karuizawa and Nagano ingredients.

Uchi Japan names a charcoal-grilled Mie sea bream with cherry tomatoes, capers and arugula pesto, 40-day dry-aged Akagi Wagyu beef, and a vegan burger. There is dining on an outdoor terrace among the trees, with local wines and sake.
