Park Hyatt Kyoto

Higashiyama, Kyoto, Japan

Seventy rooms beside Kodai-ji in Higashiyama, sharing a historic site with the 1877 ryotei Kyoyamato.

Why we recommend it

The position is the reason to choose it. The hotel stands on the slope between Kodai-ji and Kiyomizu-dera, in the best-preserved lanes of eastern Kyoto, so guests can walk them early in the morning and in the evening, when the day visitors have gone.

It is also unusual in sharing its site with a working ryotei, which puts a formal kaiseki meal a few steps from the room. With 70 rooms and a low profile it is one of the more discreet large-brand hotels in the city. See Kyoto's decade of new hotels for the alternatives, and our report on the opening.

Location

The hotel is in the Higashiyama district, next to Kodai-ji temple and within walking distance of Kiyomizu-dera and the Yasaka Pagoda. Kyoto Station is a short drive away, and Tokyo is just over two hours from there by Shinkansen.
