The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited (HSH), the Hong Kong-listed owner and operator of The Peninsula Hotels, has appointed Benjamin Vuchot as executive director and chief executive officer. Announced on 15 October 2024, the appointment takes effect on 3 March 2025.

Vuchot, 52, arrives from DFS Group, the travel retailer he has led as chairman and chief executive since 2020. His career runs through luxury retail and jewellery in Asia: sales and marketing roles at Cartier in Hong Kong and Singapore, managing director and president for Asia Pacific at Van Cleef & Arpels from 2002, regional leadership at DFS in North Asia between 2011 and 2017, and the Asia Pacific presidency of Sephora.

He succeeds Clement Kwok, who stepped down as chief executive on 31 October 2024 while remaining an executive director and adviser until the company’s 2025 annual general meeting. Christobelle Liao was named interim chief executive for the period from 1 November 2024 to 2 March 2025.

“It is a privilege to work for a company with over 150 years of excellence in luxury hospitality,” Vuchot said. HSH was incorporated in 1866 and is listed on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. Its portfolio covers 12 Peninsula hotels in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, New York, Chicago, Beverly Hills, London, Paris, Istanbul, Bangkok and Manila.

The group’s flagship remains The Peninsula Hong Kong on Salisbury Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. The full announcement is available in the Peninsula newsroom.
