Hotel The Mitsui Hakone Will Join The Luxury Collection in Q4 2026

A 126-room Hakone property is scheduled to join The Luxury Collection in late 2026.

Hotel The Mitsui Hakone is scheduled to join The Luxury Collection in the fourth quarter of 2026, adding a 126-room property to one of Japan’s most established mountain and hot-spring destinations.

Marriott includes the hotel in its current Asia Pacific opening pipeline. The project extends the Hotel The Mitsui name beyond Kyoto while placing it within a destination associated with onsen culture, views towards Mount Fuji and easy access from Tokyo.

Hakone’s luxury hotel market keeps deepening

Hakone has long combined traditional ryokan with resort hotels, but international luxury brands are increasingly entering the market. That creates new competition around how global service standards can coexist with Japanese bathing, landscape and hospitality traditions.

The Luxury Collection allows hotels to retain a stronger individual identity than a conventional hard brand, which is particularly relevant in culturally specific resort destinations.

The Q4 timing remains an anticipated opening window until Marriott confirms the first operating date.
