Taian
A counter in Osaka where the chef blends kaiseki and kappo traditions; three Michelin stars.
The Restaurant
Taian is built on humility and a willingness to take on challenges, in the Michelin Guide’s reading of chef Hitoshi Takahata, who cooks from the diner’s perspective. The menu is omakase, but guests can choose the ingredients for the grilled dishes.
Takahata blends Osaka’s kaiseki and kappo traditions and applies ryotei technique behind the counter, with knife work and charcoal-fire handling that inspectors describe as both bold and delicate.
Good to Know
Taian holds three Michelin stars in the 2026 guide. It is closed on Mondays, and the dinner window is short, with reservations made through an external booking platform. See Osaka for the wider scene.
