Why we recommend it
Alila is better known for resorts such as Alila Yangshuo. Here the brand tries the same calm in the middle of the city, with Ju Bin's interiors of natural finishes and textures. More than half the rooms are suites.
The position is the other argument. Jing'an is central and walkable, and Zhangyuan, directly below, is a complex of restored shikumen townhouses now used for retail. For travellers choosing in this district, a natural comparison is The Middle House, nearby on Nanjing West Road.
