Why we recommend it

The Okura Tokyo opened to the public on 12 September 2019, four years after the original Hotel Okura Tokyo closed. The rebuilt property offers 508 rooms in two buildings, the 17-storey Okura Heritage Wing and the 41-storey Okura Prestige Tower, set within 1.3 hectares of gardens.

The most closely watched element is the main lobby. Opened in 1962 under Yoshiro Taniguchi, it was recreated by his son Yoshio Taniguchi, with its hexagonal Okura Lantern ceiling lights, plum-flower furniture arrangement and shoji windows with Asanoha-mon latticework.

Rooms & Suites

The Heritage Wing has around 75 rooms of roughly 60 square metres, most with garden views on three sides. In the Prestige Tower, guest rooms start on the 28th floor with standard rooms of about 50 square metres. A duplex suite of 730 square metres was billed as the largest hotel suite in Japan.

Dining

The Heritage Wing houses the returning Japanese restaurant Yamazato. The Prestige Tower has Sazanka teppanyaki on the top floor, all-day dining at Orchid and the Cantonese restaurant Toh-Ka-Lin.
