Hoshinoya Tokyo
Otemachi, Tokyo, Japan
A ryokan in a tower in Otemachi: 84 tatami rooms, a lounge on every floor and a natural hot spring on the top storey.
Why we recommend it
Hoshinoya Tokyo brings the manners of a country inn to the financial district. Guests leave their shoes at the door and walk on tatami throughout; each floor works as a small ryokan with its own lounge serving tea and sake.
The baths on the top floor are fed by a hot spring drilled beneath the building and open to the sky. For travellers who will not reach a hot-spring town, it is the most complete introduction to ryokan culture in the city.
Location
The hotel is in Otemachi, a few minutes' walk from Tokyo station and the Imperial Palace gardens, with direct access to several metro lines.
