The only Huaiyang table with stars
The Huaiyang Garden earned its first Michelin star in 2023 and two stars in the 2024 guide, and Michelin notes it is the only restaurant in Macau with stars for Huaiyang cuisine. Head chef Xiao Fei, from Jiangsu, is a protégé of Huaiyang master Zhou Xiaoyan, who consults; the restaurant is a tribute to Zhou’s legacy.
Huaiyang is one of China’s four great culinary traditions, known for meticulous preparation, knife skills and delicate flavours. Dishes highlighted by inspectors include wok-fried river shrimp with ginger, spring onion and a hint of kaffir lime leaf, shredded bean curd with crab meat in superior soup, a stewed pork ball with crab meat and roe, and the crisp, made-to-order Dingsheng cake. The shrimp are from brackish waters near the Pearl River Delta, not Jiangsu.
The restaurant sits in The Londoner Macao, connected to the shopping mall, with Chinese landscape paintings, a gold-accented mural and soft lighting. Inspectors suggest the set menu for solo diners and à la carte for groups. Menus change.
