Six Senses Vana
Outside Dehradun, on the Mussoorie road, Uttarakhand, Rishikesh, India
Forest retreat near Dehradun combining Ayurveda, yoga and Tibetan medicine, with all-inclusive programmes from about five nights.
- Open
- Opened January 2014
Why we recommend it
Vana is a retreat, not a resort with a large spa. Guests choose an intention, such as sleep or yoga, instead of a menu of treatments, and everything from meals to clothing is part of the stay. It is one of the few places where Ayurveda and the Tibetan medical tradition are practised side by side.
It had built a reputation of its own well before Six Senses arrived, and the group undertook to keep the formula. Travellers should be ready for the commitment: stays are measured in days, not hours. Wellness retreats in Asia compares Vana with its peers.
Location
The retreat is in a sal forest outside Dehradun, in Uttarakhand, with the hills of Mussoorie to the north. Rishikesh, the birthplace of yoga, is within reach.
