The low-rise property has 70 guest rooms, including nine suites. It was developed jointly by Takenaka Corporation and Tony Chi and Associates, pairing a contemporary interpretation of Japanese design with historic Edo-era buildings and a Japanese garden that were preserved on the site.
The project’s anchor is Kyoyamato, a ryotei founded in 1877 that continues to operate as a separate institution serving kaiseki cuisine. Its seven-generation family owners co-own the hotel with Takenaka Corporation.
Hotel dining covers Kyoto Bistro for casual international and Japanese comfort food, The Living Room for breakfast and tea, and Yasaka, a teppanyaki counter with views of the pagoda. Kohaku is a bar focused on craft spirits.
The Spa at Park Hyatt Kyoto includes a private bath house and saunas, with signature treatments using Kotoshina organic skincare. A 200-square-metre ballroom handles events.
Kyoto Station is less than a mile away, and Tokyo is just over two hours by Shinkansen. Details of the launch are in Hyatt’s announcement.
