Go to the Cai Be floating market at first light
A wholesale river market in Tien Giang where boats sell fruit and serve breakfast.
Cai Be, in Tien Giang Province, is one of the biggest wholesale markets in the Mekong Delta, on the Tien River near Tan Phong islet at a meeting of rivers. Mostly wooden boats carry their goods on display, so buyers can pick which boat to approach, and some boats double as family homes. The market trades vegetables, fruit, flowers and household goods, with local produce such as Cai Be oranges, Hoa Loc mangoes and Xa Li guavas. Trading starts around 5 a.m., and boats serve breakfast noodles and coffee on the water.
