Upper House Xi’an: Shigeru Ban Beside the Small Wild Goose Pagoda

About 115 rooms and 55 residences beside the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, designed by Shigeru Ban and LAYAN as part of Taikoo Li Xi'an.

Swire Hotels will open an Upper House in Xi’an in 2028. The architect is Shigeru Ban and the interior design firm is LAYAN. The hotel stands within the Small Wild Goose Pagoda historical and culture zone, as part of Taikoo Li Xi’an.

Swire Hotels announced the project on 22 February 2024. It planned about 115 hotel keys and 55 serviced residences, most rooms with views of the pagoda. Taikoo Li Xi’an is a mixed-use development by Swire Properties and Xi’an Qujiang New District.

The site is near Jianfu Temple, a royal temple of the Tang dynasty’s Chang’an. The group said it had carried out extensive research and conservation work on the site’s history and cultural relics. The hotel is to offer dining, art, culture, lifestyle and wellness experiences. Toby Smith, Deputy Chairman of Swire Hotels, said the project “marks another important step in the growth of Upper House brand.”

Xi’an was confirmed on 15 October 2025, when Swire Hotels launched Upper House as a global brand, with Shenzhen in 2027, Tokyo in 2029 and Bangkok in 2030.
