Marriott International opened Josun Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Seoul Gangnam on 25 May 2021, marking the debut of The Luxury Collection brand in South Korea. The hotel has 254 rooms and suites, all with views over the city, and sits a short distance from the COEX complex and the shopping streets of Apgujeong.

The name carries more than a century of history. The original Chosun Hotel was built in 1914 as one of Korea’s first luxury hotels, and the new Gangnam property draws on that heritage south of the Han River, in the business and retail heart of Seoul.

Interiors are by Monaco-based studio Humbert & Poyet, who paired a modern vocabulary with Korean references expressed through strong lines and bold geometric patterns. The arrival sequence and Grand Reception set the tone, and a signature scent, “Lasting Impression”, with notes evoking incense, runs through the public spaces.

Rooms are dressed in Frette ‘Andrea’ linen and stocked with the brand’s Le Chemin amenities by BYREDO. Each also includes a private bar set up for mixing cocktails in the room.

Dining is spread across five venues. The Great Hong Yuan serves modern Cantonese cuisine, Eatanic Garden focuses on contemporary Korean cooking, and Constans runs from breakfast to dinner with local and international dishes. 1914 Lounge & Bar, named for the founding year, pairs tea, light meals and cocktails with nine-metre windows over the city, while Josun Deli the Boutique handles pastries, cakes and coffee.

The Josun Wellness Club includes a heated indoor pool with a panoramic deck, a fitness centre and sauna. For events, The Great Hall seats 300, alongside the Royal Chamber for 140 and the Private Chamber for 110.

“We are delighted to mark the milestone expansion of our Luxury Collection brand into South Korea with the opening of Josun Palace,” said Rajeev Menon, President Asia Pacific (excluding Greater China) at Marriott International, in the opening announcement.
