Aman Group announced on 13 March 2024 that Janu Tokyo is open, the first hotel under Janu, the sister brand it created to sit alongside Aman. The property is in Azabudai Hills, the district created and managed by Mori Building.

Where Aman is built around sanctuary, Janu is positioned around connection, with a livelier, more social tone. Tokyo is the first of 12 Janu hotels in the group’s pipeline. “The opening of Janu Tokyo solidifies Aman Group’s status as the unrivalled emblem of ultra-luxury hospitality,” said Vlad Doronin, chairman and chief executive of Aman Group.

The architecture is by Pelli Clarke & Partners, with interiors by Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston. The 122 rooms and suites range from 55 to 519 square metres; the Janu Suite measures 284 square metres and extends to 519 with adjoining rooms.

Eight venues handle food and drink. Janu Mercato is an Italian restaurant with three open kitchen counters, Iigura serves Edomae sushi, Sumi is a 13-seat charcoal-grill omakase counter, Janu Grill has two wine cellars, and Hu Jing is Cantonese. Janu Patisserie, the Janu Lounge & Garden Terrace for afternoon tea, and Janu Bar, with cocktails by Shuzo Nagumo, complete the line-up.

The spa and wellness centre extends over 4,000 square metres, with a 340-square-metre gym, a 25-metre indoor lap pool, a heated lounge pool, five movement studios for spinning, yoga, golf simulation and boxing, two Spa Houses and seven treatment rooms.
