Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi opened on 1 September 2020, a few steps from the Imperial Palace in Chiyoda. It is the third Four Seasons in Japan, and it sits at the top of a 39-storey tower designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

The hotel has 170 guest rooms and 20 suites, topped by the Imperial Suite on the 38th floor. Depending on the direction, rooms look over the city skyline, the palace grounds and, on clear days, Mount Fuji.

Interiors are by Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston. Florals are by Namiko Kajitani of zero two THREE, and artist Namiko Kitaura created the artworks for the guest rooms, as well as a three-dimensional fabric installation in the spa lobby.

The food and drink line-up at launch included est, a gastronomic restaurant under Michelin-starred chef Guillaume Bracaval; Italian restaurant Pigneto with chef Yoshihiro Kigawa; the cocktail bar Virtù with head bartender Joshua Perez; and The Lounge, where afternoon tea is overseen by executive pastry chef Yusuke Aoki.

The Spa occupies the top floor across 900 square metres, with five treatment rooms, an indoor 20-metre pool, a vitality pool, steam rooms, Japanese ofuro baths and a gym. GOCO Hospitality worked on feasibility and technical design development alongside Denniston.

The opening team numbered 285 employees under general manager Andrew De Brito. More on the city is in our Tokyo guide.
