Who Has Owned Aman? A Short History of the Group’s Owners
From Adrian Zecha's Amanpuri in 1988 to Vladislav Doronin's sole ownership in 2015, how Aman changed hands and grew to 36 properties in 20 countries.
Aman Resorts was founded in 1988 by Adrian Zecha, with the opening of Amanpuri in Phuket.
The owners
In the early 1990s Clement Vaturi acquired a majority stake. In 1998 Colony Capital took the controlling interest, and in 2000 Vaturi sold his shares to Lee Hing Development. DLF bought Lee Hing’s controlling stake in 2007. In 2014 DLF sold Aman to Aman Resorts Group, led by Vladislav Doronin, and in 2015 Pontwelly Holding Company took full ownership of Silverlink Resorts, making Doronin the sole owner.
Leadership
Zecha was chairman and chief executive after 2000. In 2014 Doronin became chairman and Olivier Jolivet chief executive; Jolivet left in 2017, and Doronin took on the chief executive’s role as well.
Growth
Aman Tokyo opened in 2014, the group’s first in Japan. Doronin unveiled the spin-off brand Janu in 2020, and Janu Tokyo opened in 2024; Aman New York opened in August 2022 at the Crown Building. The group counts 36 properties in 20 countries as of 2025. Upcoming Aman hotels on OKYTO include Aman Niseko and Amanolu in the Maldives.
