Aman Announces a Ski Resort in Niseko for 2027
Aman's fourth Japanese property, announced on 15 October 2025, will bring 30 suites and 31 residences by Kerry Hill Architects to Mount Moiwa in 2027.
Aman announced on 15 October 2025 that it will open a resort in Niseko, on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, in 2027. Aman Niseko will be the group’s fourth property in Japan, after Aman Tokyo, Amanemu and Aman Kyoto, and its first in a ski destination in Asia.
The site is on the upper slopes of Mount Moiwa, in a nature reserve at the quieter western end of the Niseko range, where it will be the only development on the mountain. The resort will have 30 suites, together with 31 Aman-branded residences for private owners, and direct access to the slopes in winter.
The design is by Kerry Hill Architects, the practice responsible for all three of Aman’s existing Japanese properties, and takes the ryokan as its model, in timber, stone and glass. Every suite will have a furo, the deep Japanese soaking tub, fed by hot-spring water. The spa will include indoor and outdoor onsen pools, Finnish saunas and rooms for Watsu water therapy, with treatments drawn from Japanese traditions.
Niseko’s reputation rests on its snow, which falls in great quantity and is unusually light and dry. The resort will also operate through the green season, with hiking and cycling in the surrounding national park land.
The announcement is part of a wave of investment that is changing Niseko from a ski town of lodges and apartments into one of the most developed mountain resorts in Asia. Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono opened in 2020, Hyatt has announced the One Hanazono Villas, and other international brands have projects under way. Aman’s choice of Moiwa, away from the main villages, follows its usual preference for a site apart.
Aman has not announced an opening date beyond the year, and schedules for mountain projects in Hokkaido, where the building season is short, are often revised.
