Niseko’s Winter 2022-23: Setsu, Park Hyatt and Chatrium Open Their Doors

As the 2022-23 ski season began, Niseko gained Setsu Niseko, described as its largest full-service hotel, alongside the newly opened Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono and Chatrium.

The Niseko ski season of 2022-23 began with several new hotels. The largest was Setsu Niseko, which opened in December 2022 and was described by The Peak as the newest and largest full-service hotel in the resort. It sits between Mount Yotei and the slopes of Mount Annupuri and has 190 residences, from 40-square-metre studios to five-bedroom penthouses, all with full kitchens and laundry. It has six food and drink outlets, three of them new that December, and a wellness centre with indoor and outdoor onsen, a spa, a sauna, a gym and a yoga studio. See Setsu Niseko.

On the north-east side of Mount Annupuri, Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono had 100 rooms with ski-in, ski-out access. Its winter season started on 3 December, and nine of its suites have private onsen, among them the Annupuri and Yotei suites on the top floor. The hotel also has Park Hyatt-branded residences, from studios to three-bedroom units, and weekend fireworks from 24 December to 25 February.

In central Hirafu Village, Chatrium Niseko, in the Shiki Niseko building, offers 72 apartments, studios and penthouses, mostly with mountain or slope views, with the Michelin-starred restaurant Kamimura on site.

For those who ski, the choice is largely between the quiet side of the mountain, at Hanazono, and the village, at Hirafu. All three belong to a resort that is changing quickly.
