Yao Ji has been a household name in Panyu District for more than forty years, according to the Michelin Guide, and its menu keeps classic Cantonese flavours in recipes that are now rare.
Two dishes are named: sweet steamed lotus-root purée, sticky and chewy and served with dried shrimp and scallion, and braised fish tripe with pomelo peel, whose spongy pith soaks up the sauce.
