Taian Table Earns Three Michelin Stars in Shanghai

Stefan Stiller's 20-seat open-kitchen restaurant joined Ultraviolet at the top of the Shanghai guide and also received the city's first Michelin Green Star.

Taian Table was promoted from two to three Michelin stars in the MICHELIN Guide Shanghai 2022, released on 12 November 2021. Chef Stefan Stiller’s restaurant on Zhenning Road reached the top rating after five years in operation, and also received the city’s first MICHELIN Green Star.

The dining room is built around an open kitchen with about 20 seats. Stiller and his team serve 10- to 12-course menus that change every six to eight weeks, and the inspectors cited “beautiful dishes with top-quality ingredients” and a cooking style that is “sophisticated and original”, adding: “The consistent quality is as outstanding as its creativity.”

The promotion gave Shanghai two three-star restaurants, with Taian Table joining Ultraviolet by Paul Pairet. Eight restaurants held two stars: Bao Li Xuan, Canton 8, Da Vittorio, Imperial Treasure Fine Chinese Cuisine, Ji Pin Court, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana and Xin Rong Ji.

The one-star tier counted 37 restaurants, five of them new: Fu 1015, Fu 1088, Obscura, Oriental Sense & Palate and Sheng Yong Xing. The Bib Gourmand list reached 20 addresses. Liang Yongxuan of Oriental Sense & Palate won the Young Chef Award, and Sophia Jin of Sheng Yong Xing the Service Award.

“Shanghai plays a very special role within Asia and the world gastronomic scene,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides. More addresses are in our Shanghai guide.
