Six Senses Fort Barwara opened on 15 October 2021 in Rajasthan, inside a 14th-century fort converted into a 48-suite resort. The conservation work took more than a decade, and the fort, once owned by a Rajasthani royal family, was restored by the Espire group.

The walled complex contains two original palaces and two temples. Suites in the East Wing look over the countryside, while those in the West Wing face Barwara village. They range from 70 to 280 square metres, including five specialty suites, and are decorated in a contemporary Rajasthani style with the brand’s Sleep With Six Senses programme of handmade mattresses and cotton bedding.

The architectural design was led by Panika, the practice of the late Nimish Patel and Parul Zaveri. Landscape designer Savita Punde and horticulturist Pradeep Kishen worked to keep the traditional gardens, water features and native planting, and the landscaping team also began restoring Barwara Lake by removing invasive plants.

The spa and fitness centre covers 2,800 square metres, offering Ayurvedic treatments, massages and wellness programmes, plus an Alchemy Bar where guests blend scrubs from local oils, muds and clays. The main restaurant, Roohani, is led by Matthew Cropp and serves Rajasthani-inspired dishes using produce from the resort’s organic garden and nearby village farms.

Pre-dinner drinks are served in the Rajawat Room, a sommelier hosts guests in the Viewing Gallery, and the Barwara Royal Ballroom is used for weddings. Drinking water is produced on site and served in reusable glass bottles.

The fort is a 2.5-hour drive from Jaipur Airport and six to seven hours by road from Delhi. Ranthambore National Park, known for its tigers, is 30 minutes away. Details are in the Six Senses opening announcement.
