Four Seasons Hong Kong Completes Room Redesign

All 399 rooms and suites at the IFC hotel have been reworked by Remedios Studio, with AB Concept designing a new bar and lobby café.

Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong has completed the first phase of a wide-ranging transformation. Announced on 6 May 2021, the work covers a full redesign of all 399 guestrooms and suites and an enhanced lobby, with two new food and drink venues scheduled to follow in June 2021.

The rooms are the work of Remedios Studio, led by chief designer Peter Remedios. The scheme combines modern furnishings with classical detailing and references to Chinese architecture, and brings traditional Chinese landscape paintings and patterns into the rooms. “Our goal is to capture the essence of this captivating place in our redesign,” Remedios said.

Practical changes sit underneath the aesthetic. Rooms gain updated lighting controls, étagères in living areas and versatile tables designed to work for both dining and working. Regional vice president and general manager Bill Taylor described the aim as a space where “culture and heritage blend seamlessly with latest technology and modern furnishings”.

The second strand of the project was handed to AB Concept, the Hong Kong design practice co-founded by Ed Ng. The studio designed ARGO, a neo-classical bar, and Gallery, a lobby café serving as a daytime venue and evening drinks spot. “Being Hong Kong-based, we drew an emotional connection to this project,” Ng said.

The hotel occupies part of the International Finance Centre complex on the Central harbourfront of Hong Kong Island. Room categories are on the Four Seasons website.
