Why we recommend it
Kaohsiung has become a destination in its own right since the opening of Weiwuying, billed as the largest performing arts centre under a single roof, and the rebuilding of its harbour front. This is a polished, well-placed address in the city's new bay district.
It also works as a southern base for Tainan and for the Alishan Forest Railway, which starts from Chiayi.
