Why we recommend it
Udaipur's famous hotels stand on Lake Pichola in the middle of the city. This one is on a quieter lake outside it, reached by boat, with the space for gardens and private pools that the old palaces lack.
It makes a base for the country north of the city, including the hill fort of Kumbhalgarh, two hours away.
