Bali’s New Hotels: What Has Opened and What Is Coming in 2026 and 2027

A Regent in Canggu, a JW Marriott in the Ubud highlands and a Mandarin Oriental on the Bukit cliffs: the island's hotel map is moving north into the hills and south to the peninsula.

Bali adds hotels every year, and the openings of 2026 and 2027 show where the island’s centre of gravity is moving. This overview separates what is already receiving guests from what is announced. Opening dates on the island slip often, and anything not yet open should be checked before booking flights around it.

Open now

Regent Bali Canggu opened in 2025 with 150 rooms and suites on the beach at Canggu, the surf village that has become the island’s most fashionable district. It has six restaurants and bars, among them a restaurant by the Singapore-based chef Andrew Walsh, and what the brand describes as its first Regent Spa. It is the first hotel of this standard in Canggu, where accommodation had been villas and small guesthouses.

Paradisus by Meliá Bali opened on 3 February 2026 at Nusa Dua, with 492 suites and seven villas, eight restaurants and four pools. It is the first Paradisus in Asia and works on an all-inclusive basis, a model still uncommon on the island.

JW Marriott Bali Ubud, at Payangan in the hills north of Ubud, began taking guests in 2026 in a soft opening. Its villas stand on a ridge above the forest, in the same upper valley as Buahan and Capella Ubud.

Announced

Kimpton Bali Ubud, with 101 rooms beside the river near the centre of Ubud, was announced for early 2026; its status was unconfirmed at the time of writing. A Japanese restaurant by the chef Hirofumi Imamura is planned.

Mandarin Oriental, Bali is due in 2027 on the cliffs of the Bukit peninsula, in the far south, with 110 suites and villas and 68 residences. The interiors are by Jeffrey Wilkes and the gardens by Bill Bensley, whose work is described in our guide to his hotels. Most units will have private pools, and a beach club is planned below the cliff.

The Apurva Kempinski Ubud, also due in 2027, will have 160 rooms and villas near the rice terraces of Tegalalang, as a hill counterpart to the group’s large resort at Nusa Dua.

What the pattern shows

Two movements are clear. The first is north of Ubud, into the Payangan and Tegalalang highlands, where land is available and the air is cooler; three of the six hotels here are in that zone. The second is the arrival of large international brands in districts that had none, Canggu above all. Seminyak and Nusa Dua, the centres of the previous generation, see little that is new; for how one Seminyak institution has renewed itself, see Desa Potato Head.

For travellers the island’s established small hotels remain the reference: Amandari, Four Seasons Sayan and Hoshinoya Bali. The new arrivals widen the choice, and the road traffic between the south and Ubud, now often two hours, is a reason to choose one base and stay there.
