Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur Sets a 30 October Opening
Hilton's flagship luxury brand arrives in Malaysia with an all-suite hotel of 268 keys on Jalan Raja Chulan, with restaurants by Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Garima Arora.
Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur will open on 30 October 2026, Hilton announced on 28 June as it began taking reservations. The hotel is the brand’s first in Malaysia and stands at 73 Jalan Raja Chulan in Bukit Bintang, in the part of the city known as the Golden Triangle, between the Petronas Twin Towers and the Pavilion shopping centre.
An all-suite hotel
The hotel has 268 keys, and every one is a suite. The smallest, with one bedroom, measures 80 square metres, which is larger than the entry-level suite at most of the city’s hotels. The largest, the Waldorf Astoria Suite, covers 745 square metres. Hilton describes the idea as residential-style living, and the layout, with separate living rooms and kitchens in many units, also suits long stays and families from the region.
The service concept is named Layan Tetamu, a Malay phrase for the hosting of guests.
Restaurants
Two names stand out. Jean-Georges Vongerichten, the Alsace-born chef whose career began in Asia, at the Oriental in Bangkok, will open JG KL. Garima Arora, the Indian chef of Gaa in Bangkok, which holds two Michelin stars, will open a restaurant of her own, her first outside Thailand. The pairing gives the hotel one established international name and one of the most interesting chefs currently working in Southeast Asia. A Peacock Alley lounge, the brand’s signature, is also expected.
The hotel will have a Waldorf Astoria Spa, a wellness centre and an outdoor pool, along with a ballroom and meeting rooms.
Kuala Lumpur’s moment
For years Kuala Lumpur offered some of the best value among Asian capitals and few hotels of the first rank. That has changed quickly. Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur opened in August 2025 at the top of Merdeka 118, the second-tallest building in the world. The Four Seasons beside the Petronas Towers holds a Michelin Key, and a Conrad is due in 2026. The city has also had a Michelin Guide since late 2022.
Waldorf Astoria’s arrival completes a top tier that did not exist five years ago. Rates in the city remain well below those of Singapore, Hong Kong or Bangkok for hotels of the same class.
