Chugoku Hanten Kohakukyu (Amber Palace)
The Chinese restaurant of Palace Hotel Tokyo, run by the Chugoku Hanten group, known for Peking duck, dim sum and seasonal seafood.
Why we recommend it
Amber Palace is the formal Chinese address of Palace Hotel Tokyo and part of the Chugoku Hanten group, listed in the MICHELIN Guide. It brings Cantonese technique to ingredients that follow the Japanese seasons.
It is a natural choice for a long lunch or a celebratory dinner in Marunouchi, and a useful complement to the French and Japanese dining that dominates the district.
Chugoku Hanten Kohakukyu, known in English as Amber Palace, is the Chinese restaurant on the fifth floor of Palace Hotel Tokyo in Marunouchi. It opened in 2012 and is run by Chugoku Hanten, a Chinese restaurant group with around four decades of history and branches across Tokyo and other parts of Japan. The restaurant appears in the MICHELIN Guide’s Tokyo selection, without a star.
The food
The menu moves across the regional cuisines of China while leaving room for creative, seasonal cooking. Two specialists anchor the kitchen. A roasting chef prepares Peking duck and char siu, and a dim sum chef makes steamed dumplings and soup dumplings to order. Seafood, including shellfish, fish and lobster, can be prepared in several styles, with XO sauce, fermented black beans or chilli sauce among the options, and Shanghai crab features in season. Soups and meat dishes round out a long carte.
The room
The dining room sets traditional Chinese decorative elements in a modern, elegant space, in keeping with the hotel around it. Five private rooms make the restaurant a practical choice for family gatherings, celebrations and business entertaining.
Why OKYTO recommends it
In a district where French and Japanese kitchens dominate, Amber Palace offers polished Chinese cooking with the backing of an established group and the comfort of a leading hotel. It is open for both lunch and dinner, which makes it as useful for a dim sum lunch near Tokyo Station as for a longer evening meal.
Food
The menu ranges across regional Chinese dishes and creative cooking with an accent on seasonality. Peking duck and char siu come from the roasting chef, while a dim sum chef prepares dumplings, and seafood can be served with XO sauce, fermented black beans or chilli sauce.

Design
The dining room blends traditional Chinese decorative elements with a modern, elegant space on the fifth floor of the hotel. Private dining rooms are available for guests who want more privacy.

Amber Palace serves lunch and dinner every day. Reservations are recommended, and opening hours and menus can change, so they are best confirmed with the restaurant or hotel before visiting.
Location
The restaurant is on the 5th floor of Palace Hotel Tokyo in Marunouchi, facing the Imperial Palace grounds side of the district. Tokyo Station and Otemachi Station are both within easy reach.
