Fook Lam Moon
A Cantonese institution with more than 70 years of history, now with a starred Wan Chai branch.
A Cantonese house with a long memory
Fook Lam Moon is one of Hong Kong’s older Cantonese names. Frommer’s records that the owners first built a catering business for private parties in customers’ homes, then opened the Wan Chai restaurant in 1972 and a Tsim Sha Tsui branch about five years later. The Michelin guide notes more than 70 years of history and credits a stable kitchen team for consistently good food.
The inspectors highlight live seafood cooked in various ways, deep-fried crispy chicken, a baked stuffed crab shell, and a gourmet soup served in a whole winter melon, alongside dim sum. Some dishes need to be ordered in advance, and reservations are taken directly rather than through the guide.
The Wan Chai branch holds one Michelin star. The appeal is old-school Cantonese banquet cooking, with prices to match. Menus change, so confirm the dishes when booking.
