The Murray, Hong Kong

Central, beside Hong Kong Park, Hong Kong

A 1969 modernist government tower on the edge of Hong Kong Park, converted by Foster + Partners into a 336-room hotel.

Why we recommend it

The Murray is one of the best adaptive-reuse hotels in Asia. Foster + Partners kept the white facade of the former Murray Building, with its deep, angled windows designed to keep out the sun, and the three-storey arches at its base, and opened the ground level to gardens.

Rooms have unusual angled bays, the rooftop restaurant and bar look over the park and the towers of Central, and the position, between the park, the Peak Tram and the business district, is hard to better.

Location

The hotel is on Cotton Tree Drive, between Hong Kong Park and Central, a short walk from the Peak Tram terminus, Admiralty and Pacific Place.
