Shinta Mani Mustang
Marpha, near Jomsom, Lower Mustang, Nepal
A 29-suite Himalayan lodge by Bill Bensley in Lower Mustang, sold with meals and guided excursions included.
- Open
- Opened August 2023
Why we recommend it
It opens a part of the Himalaya that had no hotel of this standard: a bare, ochre valley of whitewashed villages, apple orchards and monasteries, between Annapurna and Dhaulagiri.
The excursions are the point, and they are included: walks to villages and monasteries, a hike to a sacred lake, the pilgrimage temple of Muktinath. Our article on Tibetan medicine at Songtsam gives the background to the spa.
Location
At Marpha, just outside Jomsom, at about 2,800 metres. Guests fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara and then to Jomsom; the flights run in the morning and only in certain seasons (roughly mid-September to early December and mid-March to early June), are weather-dependent and are often cancelled. The alternative is a long drive or a helicopter.
